Covid 19 pandemic changed half the world's lives. But, luckily, humanity prevails and gets on its feet. This promotional project known as Brutal Zine is part of that evolutionary process. It comes from Ecuador and disseminates the national and foreign scene. Brutal Zine intends to bring everybody's attention to the metal sounds that happen right in the middle of the hemisphere.
Since when have you been editing Brutal zine on the Ecuadorian scene? "...Brutal greetings from the middle of the world, Ecuador. We greatly appreciate this interview. Brutal zine was created in 1998 in the city of Quito, by three friends who love metal, with the idea of presenting bands preferably from the national and world underground…."
I have read that you were not writing the zine for more than 20 years. What happened during this time? Why did you decide to take it up again? "…Indeed, it is so. We were off the scene for two decades. Some factors influenced me to stop making the zine. At that time, we were studying, and we couldn't get together to edit it very often. Another reason was the economic issue, and one of the great difficulties we had to face was the arrival of the internet. As we all know, all types of information can be found there. These were the reasons why we stopped doing the zine for such a long time. We decided to take it up again last year (2020), taking advantage of the free time due to what is happening globally (pandemic). So, the confinement can be overcome more easily and entertainingly by providing information to metalheads…"
Was it always free distributed in pdf, or did you print physical copies at some point? "… No, the first two editions (1998, 2000) were printed and distributed worldwide at an affordable price. The digital and free format was made, as we mentioned before, as a form of coping with this pandemic.
