BAND OF THE WEEK: BLASPHEMOUS GOAT VOMIT
NOMINATED BY SCRIPTORIUM MAGAZINE
The Bio:
BLASPHEMOUS GOAT VOMIT:
Based out of Fort Worth, Texas (United States) Blasphemous Goat Vomit was formed in September of 2016. We recorded our debut EP “Raped by Demons” in 2017. Later, we recorded our first full-length album: “Unholy Blackened Witchcult Mastery,” in 2018. It was released digitally in 2018 and physically in 2019. Five years later, we have released our second full-length album, “Necromantic Invocation.”
The early years:
“… Henry Willis and Colby Rodgers formed the band in 2016 with the goal of making simplistic, straightforward black metal. Henry came up with the name in a conversation once, completely improvised, and it stuck. We never foresaw it evolving to the band it has become today…”
The current recording:
“… In February of this year, we released our second full-length album, “Necromantic Invocation.” This album was much more diverse, professional, and dynamic than our first album. With the help of Russell Hollar, the recording quality was improved vastly from the previous release, while still maintaining the raw essence of black metal…”
The Philosophy:
“… Black metal is, as much as any metal subgenre, geared towards the darkness of humanity and the perpetual struggles of existence. The band likes to speak about the darkness within that all humans struggle with, Demonology, the power of choosing your own path and free-thinking…”
The Local Scene:
“… The local scene, like any local scene, has ebbs and flows. We have watched it thrive. We have seen it in its peaks and valleys, and we have watched it change. In the music industry, change is constant and that goes for the scene and fan bases as well. But we are endeavoring to play more out of town and have a killer show lined up in December in Houston…”
The upcoming months:
“…We are preparing for our upcoming shows and writing new material to follow up our recent album release. We want as many people as possible to hear and enjoy our music or to connect to it on some level…”
“...We have a few local shows scheduled, including one with TERRORIST from El Paso, and a great show in Houston with bands like OATH OF CRUELTY. We are also writing new material. Thank you to anyone who has ever supported the band, in any way, over the last eight years…”

The Review:
BLASPHEMOUS GOAT VOMIT “Necromantic Invocation” (2024)
This five-piece act from Fort Worth, TX has improved a lot since the first offering, especially this second album's recording quality. BLASPHEMOUS GOAT VOMIT defines itself as a black metal band with strong influences from MAYHEM or DARK THRONE, but I perceived a lot of grind-core in their musical arrangements and the frantic vocals of the debut album. The vocal element has the strongest link and identity with this dark and cold sound. Contradictorily, the debut album "Unholy Blackened Witchcult Mastery” appeals to me more because the guitar's tone and also the vocal aspects are rougher, but I strongly recommend both albums. BLASPHEMOUS GOAT VOMIT is a band whose power is on the rise. On “Necromantic Invocation”, you can notice more maturity, and although they have not lost aggressiveness, they are not as chaotic as on the debut recording. All the instruments feel more integrated and I would dare to say that the songs are better arranged. In “Necromantic Invocation” I feel something of a slow tempo Death metal and that combination with Black sounds leads the band to gain identity, makes them stand out from their influences, and makes them more attractive. I recommend the initial arpeggios in “Draping the Rotten Chalice”, the sluggish cadence of the song that names the album, and the interesting way to start the wild “Tempter to the Throne”. As I said before, “Necromantic Invocation” is not only superior in sound quality but it is also a very complete album that will make you discover the Black metal arsenal in Texas. This album will be released in cassette format by the Houstonian label The Dread Liar soon. I leave the link below for you to pre-order it. I will be keeping an eye out for this band to see them live when they play in Houston this December. And you guys, stay tuned because the best is yet to be heard. 9.1/10
