I remember entering the Scout Bar for the DEFEATED SANITY tour last year and watching STABBING live for the first time. I couldn’t believe my ears. It was such a brutal performance from this quartet, it blew my mind. I recalled checking them out on all platforms the next morning and I found the first EP “Ravenous Psychotic Onslaught”, a four-song recording dated 2021. Last year, besides the above-mentioned tour, STABBING opened for SUFFOCATION at White Oak Music Hall and embarked on a big tour with DECREPIT BIRTH also. They have been increasing the fan base, especially after the release of their debut album “Extirpated Mortal Process”, but let’s give the floor to Rene Martinez, drummer, who is commenting about this album, the forming and creative processes, and the imminent tour to Australia.

You guys released “Extirpated Mortal Process”, the debut album in a show at The End Club here in Houston last December. If you had to describe the fans' turnout towards the live performance and the album, how’d you do it? “…The turnout was much better than I ever expected it to be. To have that many people packed inside the venue all there for us was an amazing experience. The whole show was intense with every band that night being on their A game. And they all stuck around to the very end to watch us perform pretty much our whole new album. Definitely, one of my favorite shows of all time to play…”

If I am correct, two members live in Houston, and the other two are in Austin. Is it ok to relate Stabbing as a brutal Death metal act from Space City? Talk more about those early days and how you coordinated forming this band. “…Yes, Marvin and Bridget both live in Houston, and me and my wife Meryl in Austin. We never really talked about putting a band together before it just kind of happened with me and Marvin just sending riffs and drum parts back and forth over the internet. Then Marvin and I would go to my jam room in San Marcos to put together a few songs for fun really. It wasn't until I posted a couple of videos on Facebook that we knew we had something cool and that we should form the band. That's where Bridget came in on vocals and Meryl on the bass…”

Congrats on the Australian tour. How STABBING did end up with the first tour abroad in Australia? How was that invitation carried out? “…We got an email from Chalky from the band PSYCROPTIC who was interested in bringing us to Australia to play this fest he's putting together. From there we're trying to possibly do more shows…”

What are your expectations with this tour in Australia? What’s going to happen there? Is it a one-time show or are there more cities included? “… As far as I know it's just the one show. We're working on trying to add more Australian dates while we're over there…”

You guys have been creating music and recordings fast. You have already released a debut album in a year or some. Where do you guys meet and rehearse and who does most of the writing? Please, share some thoughts on the creative process of writing songs. “…Honestly, most of the writing is done online. I'm able to record drum tracks in my jam room to send to Marvin to come up with riff ideas. Or if he has riffs, he'll send them to me, and I'll go write some drum parts in my jam room. Since we don't live in the same city, we don't really get to rehearse that often, so each member of the band has to pretty much practice our material individually. But we do get together before shows at either my jam room in San Marcos or at a rehearsal space in Houston. It's a weird process that I've never done with a band before but it's working so I'm ok with it…”

Are you excited that Comatose Music is releasing your debut album? How did you end up working with this label? Were there more offers on the table? “…Comatose Music has been so great for us. I've known Steve for many years with him releasing albums from my previous band DISFIGURED. We didn't really have that many offers when we were first starting but Steve was really consistent about wanting to sign us, so we went with his offer which was great and has been awesome for the band with everything that he does for us...”

What’s the band up to these days and what’s in your heads besides the Australian run? “…Right now, we're just enjoying the response we've gotten from the new album. We're hoping to get asked to do another major tour again. The last one with UNMERCIFUL, PATHOLOGY and DECREPIT BIRTH was an amazing first tour for us and we can't wait to get back on the road to do it again. I'm just really happy the way this album has done...”

Thanks so much for taking the time and answering these questions. I know you guys should be extremely busy. This is the space to say some more words to your followers and our readers. “…Thanks to all the fans that have supported us from all over the world. It feels great to put out some brutal Death metal that people really enjoy. And we're just getting started! Cheers!
