SECTARIUM "MUD TEETH" NEW ALBUM IS OUT TODAY!

The memory of the SECTARIUM concert at the Casa de la Cultura on Calzada y 8 in Havana is still etched in my mind. It was a cold, bitterly windy night, the perfect atmosphere to accompany Franto Paul’s invocations and SECTARIUM’s sinister music. Nearly 30 years later, though Franto is no longer with us in the flesh, this new album transports me back to that glorious era. "Mud Teeth" delves deeper into a dark Death/Doom sound, with the vocals of Doomslayer (ex-CONGREGATION/FROM THE ABYSS) lending an even heavier and more subterranean weight to these nine tracks. It will be a privilege to listen to this new record; it stays true to the band's roots, and I would venture to say it marks the fresh start many of us have been waiting for. Oliva (founder and multi-instrumentalist) continues to amaze us with his creations and tells us a bit more about this new release.
1. For the second time, you’ve collaborated with a musician other than Franto to bring a SECTARIUM album to fruition. What made you consider Doomslayer for the role of vocalist? “… I had already been working with Doomslayer for several years on projects like NAUREA and GODES YRRE, as well as the first SECTARIUM album. He had handled the mixing and defined much of the sound for my projects, so, beyond just musical trust, there was already a friendship in place…”
“… He had sung in other bands back in Cuba, and when the possibility arose for him to handle the vocals for *Mud Teeth*, I decided to try him out on a single track. I gave him the freedom to work in his own way, without imposing too many instructions, and the result won me over. That’s when I knew I’d found the right person. I think he understood what SECTARIUM represents and respected its history. He threw himself fully into the album, contributing ideas and working intensely on the vocals, arrangements, re-recordings, and the final sound. His contribution was fundamental to achieving the rawness we were looking for. It was deeply satisfying to make this record with someone with whom I share not only years of professional collaboration but also genuine friendship…”

2. Is the music on this album 100% your own creation, or was it a collaborative effort? “… The composition is 100% mine, but the album wouldn't sound the way it does without Doomslayer's contribution. In addition to performing vocals and playing guitar, he worked intensively on vocal arrangements, re-recordings, and final arrangements. He also handled mixing and mastering. Composing the songs is one thing; the work required to turn them into the album people actually hear is another. Doomslayer played a fundamental role in that process. I think we achieved a raw, dark, and hard-hitting sound that perfectly captures what we wanted to convey with “Mud Teeth” ...

3. More than 30 years after the iconic *God’s Wrath*, do you still feel there is a common thread, a bond, or that same mystique that surrounded SECTARIUM in 1990s Cuba? “… I think so. It’s impossible to relive that era in the same way, but some things endure. “God’s Wrath” was born in a very specific context within a Cuban scene that faced its own unique challenges, where playing extreme metal was a vastly different experience than it is today..."
"... Over the years, the music and circumstances have changed, but that attraction to dark sounds and a form of expression that doesn't need to conform to trends remains. “Mud Teeth” isn't trying to recapture the past; it’s an album created in the present, even though it inevitably carries a piece of that history with it. People have told me they can hear an "old-school" sound, but the fact is, I come from that era, haha…”
“… For me, that common thread lies precisely there: in continuing to make this music because I still have things to express through it. SECTARIUM was born in Cuba, but its story didn't end there. Everything experienced since then is part of what it is today…”

4. Will this new album see a physical release? What can SECTARIUM’ s fans expect in the coming months? “… For now, “Mud Teeth” is available digitally. I would like to see a physical edition as well (whether on CD, vinyl, or cassette) but that depends on interest from a label and the feasibility of making it happen. Nothing is confirmed at the moment…”
“… Over the coming months, we will continue to bring the album to life through official videos. The video for "Mud Teeth" is already out, and the video for "Phlegm Icicles" will be released in a week. I am working on another one for "Killing Thorri," which will feature its own visual concept within the SECTARIUM universe…”
“… On a separate note, the 1993 demo *God’s Wrath* is being reissued on vinyl this year by the prestigious label Nuclear War Now; it will be available through the label itself and via your website: Scriptorium Magazine! Other than that, we will keep working step by step, letting “Mud Teeth” find its own path and reach those who can connect with it. After all these years, the important thing remains making music that resonates with us, without having to follow trends or live up to anyone else's expectations…”

About the band:
Formed in Cuba in 1993, SECTARIUM are among the early bands of the Cuban Death/Doom metal underground. Their first demo, “God’s Wrath” (1993), later gained cult status among underground metal listeners, followed by “Larvae” in 1999, recorded during a period marked by the death of bassist and vocalist Franto Paul. “God’s Wrath” has since received several reissues, including releases through Black Noise Records in 2017, American Line Productions in 2023 and La Caverna Records in 2025.

Based in Switzerland since 2012, SECTARIUM returned from a long recording hiatus with “Ad Infernum” in 2023. In 2026, the addition of Doomslayer on guitar and vocals introduced a new line-up for the band. “Mud Teeth” continues that evolution with a heavier and more focused death/doom sound while retaining the identity SECTARIUM have developed over more than three decades.

My fellow metalheads, let’s continue doing what we know best. Let’s keep those fists up in the air and our metal scene alive.  Let’s lift it up together as one, like that DEATH’s song because we all are all of the same blood like KREATOR stated in “Violent Revolution”. Let’s always remember that we are all bonded by blood and by metal music. Beers up!
