BEYOND THE HATE

Helsinki, Finland. Beginning of 2017

Current members:
Niko Kalinainen – vocals, Kimmo Perälehto – guitars, Jyrki Karhu - guitars & orchestration, Mikko Monto – bass and Tommy Uhtio – drums.

The Early Days:

“… Our begin roots back to the summer of 2016, when guitarist Kimmo Perälehto and bassist Mikko Monto started writing songs together. Second guitarist Jyrki Karhu joined in early Autumn and singer Niko Kalinainen just in bit later. The band was officially founded in January 2017 when Tommy Uhtio took over the drumming duties and the first practice sessions were held. In the very beginning our songs were more straightforward metal but in late 2018 we started to our musical direction in melodic death metal because as we like to play heavy stuff with atmospheric and melancholic melodies added on top…”

Studio Report:
“… Darkest Times album has been a big investment and the process of creating this album has been a long one, as would this studio report be in full length, but in short, the very first demo tracks for the album were completed in late 2018 and the latest compositions were finished in spring 2021. The material was carefully thought out and refined during that time period. Then we moved to the actual pre-production phase with our producer Pekka Posio, who also recorded and mixed the whole album. Drums and acoustic guitars were recorded at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki in autumn 2021 during heavy week, then proceeding recording of guitars and bass in Pekka´s home studio. And again, returned back to Sonic Pump Studios to record all vocals. Jyrki composed all the orchestration tracks to the album and mastering was done by Svante Forsbäck from Chartmakers Oy…”

“… The album includes totally 12 tracks with total lenght of 62 minutes and has also feature guest vocalists Katri Hiovain-Asikainen of Numento on track 4 "Black Within" and Jaakko Mäntymaa of Marianas Rest on track 12 "In Memoriam". Co-operation with both Katri and Jaakko was very easy and pleasant. They both are extremely professional with their voices and in studio working. Album was finally released after a long creation path on March 8th by Inverse Records Finland…”

The concept:
“… Tragic happenings in life, like death, are one source of inspiration in song writing. Also the title of our debut album "Darkest times" perfectly describes this time in the world where wars and pandemics relentlessly plague the world. We have all listened to heavy metal music all our life. We like to play metal and we are inspired by melodic death metal and many of our favourite bands are in this genre, like Wolfheart, Insomnium, Marianas Rest to name a few…”

The Local Scene:
“… We have a good underground metal scene in Finland, and we get good support from other bands and audience. During our career we have had a decent number of live shows to play with other bands, especially in capital area of Helsinki. Just the corona pandemic messed up our gigs for a couple of years. We only played two live shows during those dark years. Nowadays it's hard to stand out and get praised outside our own area because especially in Finland there are so many new metal bands rising at the moment. The new album has been hyped well in Europe, especially in Germany, which is very cool to get more name for our band outside Finland.

Current times:
“… At the moment we are composing new material and playing gigs during this year to promote our album Darkest times…”

Dreams, Hopes and Future:
It would be nice to play one of the popular metal festivals in Finland at year 2024 or 2025. One dream would be to open a show for some big Finnish melodic death metal band. We are bringing new demo songs to the training room during upcoming months. Our next live show will be on May 4th in Bar Loose bar in Helsinki with As The Sun Falls and Arctora bands. Greetings to all followers and we hope you enjoy our new "Darkest Times" album which was released in March 2024. This album is dedicated to those we have lost during the way. You will be missed…”
