We are witnessing a recording of two Ukrainian bands with quite a few points of contact and remarkable contrasts. IGNEA is the one that has a more stable trajectory with two highly acclaimed albums such as "The Sign of Faith" (debut album/2017) and "The Realms of Fire and Death" (2020); and several videos that have rewarded them with a consistent fans base. This Ukrainian band stands out for the mixture of melodic metal with symphonic bits, Middle Eastern influences, electronic passages, and the accurate instrumentalists’ performances. I’d highlight Eugeny on the keyboards and Helle on the extraordinary vocal interpretation, although the rest of the musicians also put their own so that IGNEA sounds seamless, with tremendous precision, praising the rhythmic section of Xander on the bass and Ivan on the drums. The guitar is played by Dmitry, who is responsible for molding the band's melodic metal in its willingness to flirt with other styles and influences.  

"Beast" is a loyal attempt by IGNEA towards its ERSEDU country mates, a band that moves along the symphonic paths, but we will talk about that later. This EP is made of six songs, the first two ones run entirely to IGNEA, the third is shared with ERSEDU, the next two ones are under ERSEDU’s authorship and there is a sixth one, which is an almost 16 minute instrumental, that can only be heard in the physical copies because on Spotify, for example, it does not feature. In the lyrical section the songs deal with Ukrainian mythology, outstanding different mythical creatures and also about the relationship between both worlds, that of the living and that of the dead, among other things.

IGNEA is the band that opens with "Bosorkun" and "Magura's Last Kiss", both songs very much on the way of their previous album, they seem like songs that were left over from that recording. The third piece as I said is shared. It is titled "Mermaids" and there is a filmed video that is already available on the band's YouTube page. This song is the clear evidence that both bands share Middle Eastern rhythms and melodies affinities, the beginning reminds me of the controversial but magnificent "Saytanu Akbar", although it has other flavor and quickly you can see the difference and also the musical maturity. IGNEA is a band that I would like to recommend because it is emerging and also because they make a very interesting job at a musical and vocal level. Helle, the lead vocalist is the driving force behind this band. Her ability and incredible technique allows her to go from guttural to clean or melodic voices very easily, this talks about her skills as a singer. In this saturated genre with lots of female fronted bands, and where there is not much variety at times, Helle stands out for her vocal registers and comfortable interpretation. Both the guttural and melodic voices are highly identifiable.

On the other EP’s side, ERSEDU, is a band formed out of two musicians who prefer anonymity now and who released an album in 2011entitled "NC17" under a full band format. Their music has many points of contact with IGNEA, although they lean more towards a slow, mid-paced metal, AFTER FOREVER/TRISTANIA type, but with more symphonic arrangements, something Jazzy, progressive at times and much of this it is appreciated on "NC17", although the songs on "Bestia" go in a Death metal type direction by the guitars, Doomish for the cadence and the vocals have improved in comparison with "NC17". They continue with space travel atmospheres, as if you were inside a movie soundtrack, and the vocalist, is very versatile, although judging by "Mermaids" video, the girl in ERSEDU can cope with the guttural responsibility.

I highly recommend the two songs "Black Garden" and "The Eaters of the Sun" by ERSEDU. For many, including me, it is an unknown band, which since 2011 does not edit a solid release, but if they decide to return, they will be a band to take into account .These two songs leave you connected and asking for more. ERSEDU, with these two tracks, leave no doubt that they are a band with talent, intriguing at times and above all, and the upcoming songs promise to be a very motivating listening.

Many thanks to IGNEA for this idea, for such good music on this EP "Bestia" and for giving ERSEDU that push and encouragement. IGNEA are on their way to becoming one of the most representative bands of the Ukrainian scene and I appreciated that well introduced us to ERSEDU, another band that if decided to issue an album, for sure it will be worth listening. Congrats for both bands! 2022 will be a year where we expect a next recording from both bands to continue delighting our pagan existence.  9.1/10

Estamos en presencia de una grabacion de dos bandas ucranianas con bastante puntos en contacto y notables contrastes. De las dos bandas IGNEA es la que tiene una trayectoria mas estable con dos muy aclamados discos como lo fueron “The Sign of Faith” (debut album/2017) y “The Realms of Fire and Death” (2020) y varios videos que le han servido para crear una consistente base de seguidores.Este grupo ucraniano destaca por la mezcla de metal melodico con toques de sinfonicos, influencias medio orientales, pasajes electronicos, la certera ejecucion de sus instrumentistas destacando a Eugeny en los teclados y a Helle en la extraordinaria interpretacion vocal, aunque el resto de los musicos tambien ponen lo suyo para que IGNEA suene sin fisuras, con tremendo empaste alabando a la seccion ritmica de Xander en el bajo e Ivan en la bateria. La guitarra es interpretada por Dmitry, quien es el responsable moldear el metal melodico del grupo en su afan de coquetear con otros estilos e influencias. 

“Bestia” es un leal intento de IGNEA hacia sus coterraneos de ERSEDU, banda que se mueve por los caminos sinfonicos, pero despues entraremos en ella. Este EP lo componen seis canciones, las primeras dos canciones corren enteramente a IGNEA, la tercera es compartida con ERSEDU, las dos siguientes son bajo la autoria de ERSEDU y hay una sexta, que es un instrumental de casi 16 minutos, que solamente se puede escuchar en las copias fisicas porque en el disco en Spotify, por ejemplo, no aparece. En el apartado letristico las canciones versan sobre la mitologia eucraniana mecionando diferentes criaturas miticas y tambien sobre la relacion entre ambos mundos, el de los vivos y el de los muertos, entre otras cosas.

IGNEA es la banda que abre con “Bosorkun” y “Magura’s Last Kiss”, ambas canciones muy en la cuerda de su disco anterior, parecen canciones que sobraron de esa grabacion. La tercera pieza como ya dije es compartida. Se titula “Mermaids” y hay un video filmado que ya esta disponible en la pagina de Youtube de la banda. Esta cancion es la clara evidencia que ambas bandas comparten la afinidad por los ritmos y las melodias medio orientales, el empezar me recuerda a la controversial pero magnifica “Saytanu Akbar”, aunque tiene otros aires y rapidamente se nota la diferencia y tambien madurez musical. IGNEA es una banda que quisera recomendar porque esta emergiendo y tambien porque tienen un trabajo muy interesante a nivel musical y vocal. Helle, la vocalista es el motor impulsor de esta banda. Su capacidad e incredible tecnica le permite ir desde lo guttural a lo limpio o melodico con mucha facilidad, habla de sus aptitudes como cantante. En este saturado genero donde pululan las agrupaciones con cantantes femeninas donde no hay mucha variedad en ocasiones, Helle sobresale por sus registros y su comoda interpretacion, tanto la voz guttural como la melodica son altamente identificables.

Por la parte del otro conjunto ERSEDU, es una banda compuesta por dos musicos que prefieren el anonimato y que liberó un disco en el 2011 titulado “NC17”, pero como formato de banda en aquel entonces. La musica tiene muchos puntos de contactos con IGNEA, aunque se inclinan mas hacia un metal lento, cadencioso, tipo AFTER FOREVER, pero con arreglos mas sinfonicos, algo Jazzy y mucho de esto se aprecia en el disco “NC17”, aunque las canciones en “Bestia” van en una direccion tipo Death metal las guitarras, Doomish por la cadencia y las vocales han mejorado en comparacion con “NC17”. Siguen con atmosferas espaciales, como si estuvieras dentro de una banda sonora, y todo llevado de la mano de la vocalista, quien es muy versatil, aunque a juzgar por el video de “Mermaids” la chica en ERSEDU puede con a responsabilidad de las guturales.

Recomiendo mucho las dos canciones “Black Garden” y “The Eaters of the Sun”, por la parte de ERSEDU. Para muchos, incluyendome, es una banda desconocida, que desde el 2011 no edita un material solido, pero de volver a la carga, seran un conjunto a tener en cuenta. Estas dos canciones te dejan conectado y pidiendo por mas. ERSEDU, con estos dos cortes, dejan entrevisto que son una agrupacion con talento, intrigante y sobretodo, muy interesante a la hora de escuchar sus canciones.

Muchas gracias a los chicos de IGNEA por esta idea, por tan buena musica en este EP “Bestia” y por darle ese empujon y el animo que talvez ERSEDU necesitaba. IGNEA van en camino a convertirse en una de las bandas representativas de la escena ucraniana y que bien que nos presentaron a ERSEDU, otro conjunto que de volver a editar un disco, de seguro valdra la pena esprar y escuchar. Mi parabien para las dos bandas, 2022 sera un año donde esperamos una proxima grabcion de ambas bandas para seguir deleitando nuestra pagana existencia.  9.1/10
