The Forming:
“… The band was founded by Jani Mikkänen in Switzerland in 2020. But the band has always identified themselves as "Finnish" and their origins are now deeply rooted in Finland. The forming date is March 2020. Jani started this band as a Solo Project sometime in 2019 on his own. He had dreamed of creating this project since he was a teenager, but he was lacking the needed maturity and skills back then. Then after writing his first songs in 2019, he was convinced by friends to make it a full band and to publish it, so it happened that the band came into existence in March 2020…”

New album Studio Report:
“… The work on our upcoming album "Kaamos" began already before the release of the first album. Certain songs were created way back in 2021 and have been adapted over time to their final shape today. In 2023 Jani placed his focus on the finalization of the songs and shortly after the band started recording the new album. The Drums were recorded by our Drummer Paul at his private studio in early 2023. The initial plan was to release the album in April 2023, but this idea was rejected, and the album got re-scheduled for 2024. During spring 2023 the last tracks were recorded and went into the mixing process until the end of 2023 the final version of the album was mixed and ready. The production of this album was a completely new way of working for the whole band and required a different approach to the music. Each member had to choose his setup and his way of working himself as we all had to record the songs independently at home or at the studio. For our next album, we will choose to take a different and closer approach that will give us more possibilities in the production…”

AS THE SUN FALLS’ Concept:
“… The lyrics are mostly based on the deep-rooted melancholy that reigns in the northern hemisphere. About the harsh, cold winters, the endless, untouched nature, and endless woods, and the beauty of the winter. We are heavily influenced by natural phenomena like the Aurora Borealis or the Polar Nights and others. Often our lyrics create a link between nature and human miseries such as death, grief, and sorrow. Melodic Death Metal, especially the Finnish way, has a very deep strain of emotion linked to the music. A melancholy and sorrowful allure that can't be found in many genres except maybe in the more atmospheric black metal bands. We decided to walk the path of melodic Death while being heavily influenced by black metal as it prospects a very intense set of emotions in this constellation…”

The Finnish Scene:
“… As you may know, Finland has a very active metal scene ranging from huge names such as NIGHTWISH or WINTERSUN to small local acts. There are always shows going on, especially in the capital region. There are a lot of venues around the country booking good shows. But the local scene is unfortunately bleeding like in most countries since Covid. Venues prefer to book bigger acts on Weekends and ban local acts to slots on weekdays or under very bad conditions. This leads to a usual low attendance of the show during weekdays. But we can clearly see that the scene starts to get more active and move for these smaller shows too…”

Dreams and goals:
“… Besides working on the release of our album on May 3rd we are preparing for our album release Tour across Europe in May this year. Dreams may be the wrong word, but we do have goals. We are aiming for a Europe-wide booking contract and to increase our reach across the globe. We are aware that the music business, especially the metal scene, is a very hard field to grow, in which we have to invest a lot of time and effort. And so shall we do. The passion is too big to give up because of its difficulty…”

“… Our album release Tour is on everyone's mind at the moment. Around 20 Shows in over 10 countries await us and we are very excited about this. The songwriting for the next album has started already so this is also something we have in mind these months. But we are especially looking forward to finally releasing our new album and sharing our music with the world.
